Last week, Columbia celebrated the arts and student artistic talent as it hosted the Ferreira Annual Mural Expo (FAME) 2014, a youth mural directed by Art Teacher Mr. Roger Ferreira.
Hosted in the Living Wall Lounge on Thursday, June 12, the Expo challenged students to produce an original piece of art that reflected this year’s “Festival of Light” theme. Students from within the Westdale area, including Westdale High School, St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Prince Philip Elementary School and Columbia, participated in the Expo.
More about FAME
The FAME expo was initially designed as a onetime event to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Stewart Memorial Church, an important institution for Hamilton’s African community. Mr. Ferreria has continued the tradition as he believes it is a great way “to promote art in our schools and to foster a sense of camaraderie.” He also believes that this meaningful art can be used “to change society for the better” and is a wonderful way of producing “a unique community mural.”
Thank you to Mr. Ferreria or his great work in organizing and hosting the event and to all the spectators who attended.
