Columbia’s Junior Middle School (JMS) students are preparing to celebrate the end of their school year and have been hard at work completing year end projects in a number of their classes. They have also been practicing their presentation and public speaking skills as they prepared to showcase their work to staff and students.
Last week, JMS students held a Science Fair in the Ainsliewood front lobby where they discussed their projects, the scientific process they followed, and shared their conclusions with staff judges. Staff members were impressed not only by the interesting research topics, which included, “Burning Money”, “Potato Battery”, and “Mummification of an Apple”, but also by the conclusions students drew from their projects.
Yesterday, JMS students showed off their artistic abilities at the JMS Art Show where a selection of impressive art work was on display. Included were wire art pieces, clay models, sculptures and drawings from the class. Students were required to explain how they created their pieces and the inspiration behind their designs.
Before their year end celebration on June 15, JMS students have one final project to complete, a Fables play taking place on June 10 at 1 p.m. in the Ainsliewood gym. All are welcome to attend.
