CIC students who are 18 or older will be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine in the comfort of their Student Residence. The vaccine will be administrated by CIC’s Registered Nurses and will be free of charge.
Parental consent is required before vaccination.
In taking serious steps to protect our students, CIC has been authorized by Hamilton Public Health to administer vaccines to our own students and staff. The vaccine is the Moderna mRNA-1273 which requires two doses, 16 weeks apart.
Graduating students and those going home for summer should consider the availability of a second dose of the same vaccine where they will be located.
Everyone in Ontario Will be Vaccinated by June
The province of Ontario is confirming that it expects to have everyone who is eligible and wants to receive a vaccination to be vaccinated by the end of June 2021.
CIC staff will be able to be vaccinated before the end of May.
Canada also recently approved the Pfizer vaccine for children between 12 and 16 years old. We expect an announcement on their administration soon.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that 41% of adult Canadians have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of May 7, 2021.
Schools Will be the First to Reopen after Lockdown
Even though the current Lockdown in Ontario is set to end by May 20th, government officials are cautioning the population that restrictions may be extended depending on COVID-19 numbers, trends, and local health care system capacity.
Ontario’s Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe, has confirmed that schools will be the first to reopen after lockdown even though a date has not been confirmed.
